Columbia Protesters Rush Stage as Gilchrist Speaks

Minuteman Project founder Jim Gilchrist was attacked by angry, violent protesters last night who stormed the stage during his speech at Columbia University in New York City, forcing an abrupt end to the event.Watch Columbia University Television News video here.

Gilchrist told WND the "violent outburst is yet another indication that those who support illegal immigration are happy to use communist tactics in their intolerant determination to prevent the Minutemen from exercising their First Amendment rights."

An outright battle broke out Wednesday on stage at Columbia University with Minutemen leader Jim Gilchrist caught in the middle. His message against illegal immigrants was too radical for students and protesters who took over the stage, cutting his speech short.

“He has a history of being aligned with white power forces and racist forces throughout the U.S.,” said one protester.
“Minutemen are not a legitimate voice in the debate over immigration,” added another. “The Minutemen are a group of racist vigilantes who stand on the border with their rifles and call it open hunting season on anyone with brown skin.”

The protestors are clearly stating racism as an excuse to be here illegally. They want something the easy way. Our country is what it is because our forefathers stood up and fought the british and later we have fought for what we have such as during the Civil Rights movement. If we had simply ran to another country when things were not right, we'd be like Mexico or worst. I say fight for what you want in your own country instead of coming here to take what we fought for. I also say sure this country has been a home for immigrates, but legal ones. And now that needs to change, because just as many businesses will say, in order to survive, we must be willing to adapt to change. And this country has enough immigrants whether they are brown, black, white, yellow, blue or other color. As our population is exploding, soon we'll be like the Chinese, who are allowed to have only one child, because of over crowding. Children of illegals should not be automatic citizens and immigration should be reserved for those with real political oppression issues, but who have the hardest time getting in. The people that accuse Americans of being racist only do it because some of us listen to it and buy into it, thus they have found a weak point in our fiber.
Wendy, your forefathers -and mine- didn't magically appear out of nowhere. We have what we have because we DID RUN to another country. Remember? We left England for a better opportunity. We THEN fought England because of "No taxation w/out representation" Remember?? At the time England was overcrowded and underemployed, leading to crime and poverty. Sound familiar? Yeah, like Mexico. So we're better off because we DID run. Now YOU get to reap the benefits without lifting a finger. THAT sounds like the easy wasy to ME.
I don't know any of you people, (Wendy, Ruben) but I see both sides of your points. Now here is mine. I do belive that yes, WE as a organized people to fight the British for the no, taxation without representation and were also fighting for religious freedom and with all our different beliefs and races.
Ruben, how do you know that Wendy hasn't lifted a finger? Do you personally know her or her life? I don't.
But what I do know is she does make a valid point? What about the Legal immigrants, I know a few in their sixties now who had to learn English, have a sponsor to work for, ect. ect. This guy also fought for the U.S. and still was not considered an American citizen.
Where I ask, where do we draw the line????
I have experienced reverse discrimination first hand as has my tall blond, green-eyed son who rarely leaves the house because he won't join a Spanish gang and very few English speaking people live here. They call him names in Spanish, so I guess I have to learn Spanish to actually at least be able to speak back.... This is not insane. Oh by the way I am white and am willing to work for $5 an hour so me and my teen are able to eat... his Dad died but worked all his life so we benefit from his death. It is almost like if you were born here, you are crap and a freeloader, this is not true, I know a lot of people that would work below what illegals are making. Oh well let more in and you will see what happens to your mothers and fathers that are reaching retirement age, and then wonder what is going to happen to those in their 20's amd 40's and God help those that do have children. Because what is being left behind is one big mess. I want to join Minuste men but I am unarmed and I'll be dead in a week if I speak out over here, I gues being shot is better than stavation. Later.
Hilcat, what I said was mainly referencing Wendy's statement of "They want something the easy way". No I do not know her life, nor does she know the life an immigrant.
I am of Mexican descent and have no ill will towards anyone, but I speak my mind.
Those born in the U.S. have a great advantage over anyone else so I feel blessed for that, as I was born here. My parents came as immigrants and did well for themselves. First living in the ghettos of Chicago, now living in the burbs. As for myself, I'm in school on my way towards making something of myself. No government grants or financial aid, just my hard earned cash. I work full time and go to school, plus I have an 8 year old son myself.
Just like my parents did 20+ years ago, immigrants from all over the world come here and do very well. It's time for all of us here to man up and do the same. Instead of complaining about why someone else is doing well, focus on bettering your own situation.
Just as you strive to leave the area you're in, as I hope you do, Mexican immigrants do the same. It's not a specific race that makes things the way they are, it's the living conditions. I live in a pretty nice neighborhood of Whites, Hispanics, Asians and Blacks and we all get along just fine.
I don't mean to lecture you, I just hope you understand where I am coming from.
Follow the law please. Stop illegal immigration.
